Natural color formula
I have always loved the natural tones of the earth—the subtle green of newly grown grass, the warm beige of beachside sand, and the rich clay tones of terracotta. There is something beautiful about using colors that evoke emotion, but I often found it difficult to create my perfect palette. As my paint supply grew with all the wrong tones, I knew it was time to experiment.
Enter, the natural color formulas. With just five base colors—white, blue, red, yellow, and brown—you can create an infinite number of earthy, harmonious shades.

Through trial and error, I discovered that small adjustments in ratios could completely shift the mood of a color. Adding more yellow brings warmth, while a touch of blue cools things down. Red deepens tones into rich, rustic hues, brown grounds the palette, and white softens everything into muted, dreamy neutrals.

This method not only helped me refine my palette but also made my painting process more intentional. Instead of collecting dozens of pre-mixed tubes that never felt quite right, I now have control over every shade I create.
If you’re struggling to find your perfect earthy palette, I encourage you to experiment with mixing your own natural color formulas. Start with just these five colors, test different ratios, and watch as your ideal shades emerge. Sometimes, the perfect color isn’t found—it’s made.
